Quantum Information Technology - 2021 forecast

Covid-19 is horrible, and most of the people is still at risk recently. Even though the vaccines have already arrived and will be reaching to hundreds of millions of people in early 2021, but it still takes much of time to protect & heal the whole world’s people. Please stay safe and healthy.
By the way, it is now the season for top lists of predictions for the year ahead. This is Q-Thai forum’s annual prediction for what will dominate on the quantum information technology scene in 2021. There are five topics that might not be called “forecast” since it is almost 100% accurate !
Last year, Gartner moved hype cycle 2020 of quantum computing to a new category on “computing infrastructure” from previous AI (2019) subsequently from emerging technologies (2017 - 18). It has already claimed up to the top of peak of inflated expectation’s curve. Of course, no one know how long it would stand at the “plateau of productivity” as the final goal. But we are so sure that how quantum computing and nearby quantum IT branch — quantum cryptography and related, would play their roles for the whole 2021 year. Here is those five forecasting by Q-Thai forum;
1) Quantum 5G-Phone - It’s an embarrassment !
Recently, a Chinese TELCOS has claimed that its 5G new phone is empowered with “quantum (SIM)”. Also a Korean and a Vietnamese new 5G phone claimed with a quantum - enabled phone (2020) even they implemented only “quantum random generator (QRNG)” from LED source (not high grade laser). Basically, QRNG is used to produce random sequence better than that from electronics chip. But it is slightly good only for medium-ware inside the phone. User will never appreciate QRNG him/ herself neither on voice nor data services. Obviously, all “quantum 5G-phone” claims is that the successful marketing campaign just by chaining to the word of miracle (quantum) - congratulations !
However, for the technology development scenarios and science communications for the public point of view, naming quantum with 5G-phone, it’s an embarrassment !
2) Quantum Computer - U will never wait alone - Sure !
How long have you already waiting for the real quantum computer ? When could you utilize it by yourself for a better computing power ? Where and how to perform a specific computation topic in just 200 seconds which would take the supercomputer about 10,000 years to complete ?
No one know. But you are not alone to wait throughout another year (or longer) !
3) Quantum Cryptography (QKD) - To follow NCSC & NSA, worldwide does not recommend the usage !
NCSC (UK) mentioned in 2016 that “QKD is a 30-year-old technology with claims of unconditional security, guaranteed by the laws of physics. However, there are a number of restrictions inherent to real world commercial QKD systems”. And also; “QKD is distinct from post-quantum public key cryptography, which is based on classical mathematical problems that are hard to solve even in the presence of quantum computers.
Meanwhile, NSA (US) does not recommend the usage of quantum key distribution and quantum cryptography for securing the transmission of data in National Security Systems (NSS).
QKD is now over thirty years of ages. Its products have been released for about two decades but there is still no any “customer review”. Who will be the next to say no !

This expensive boutique security system is cost more than $250 K for only a point-to-point link benefit just to avoid eavesdropping the key, not that to be unhackable communications as any claims.
4) Post-Quantum Cryptography - Good boy, U have to walk alone.
NIST(US) - “Regardless of whether we can estimate the exact time of the arrival of the quantum computing era, we must begin now to prepare our information security systems to be able to resist quantum computing”, then NIST has initiated a process to solicit, evaluate, and standardize one or more quantum-resistant public-key cryptographic algorithms. Its process is now on the 3rd round (Jan 2021).
Yes, it is a good solution for quantumIT era. Just be patient and wait !
5) Quantum Snake Oil - Rapid-growth market. Beware !
Forbes posted a very good article (2020), everything was already implied in its topic; “Don't Get Fooled By Post-Quantum Snake Oil: We Are Still Years Away From Being 'Quantum Proof’”.
Warning !
Quantum tech is not that snake oil’s multi purposes. Are you the victim of quantum fake products or services ?
Let’s see at the end of 2021, how accuracy of these five predictions.

โลกไอทีควอนตัมที่ถลำไกลมากว่าสามทศวรรษ มีทั้งความพยายามที่แท้จริงเพื่อพัฒนาไปสู่ความก้าวหน้าของการสื่อสารและการคำนวณยุคอนาคต และทั้งมีเทคโนโลยีที่คิดคดหาทางอ้างเพียงความขลังของคำว่า “ควอนตัม” ไปเพิ่มมูลค่าของสินค้าและบริการที่มีอยู่แล้วหรือที่สร้างข้าง ๆ เคียง ๆ ขึ้นมาอีกมาก วงการไอทีอนาคตนี้ได้รับการวิพากษ์มาอย่างต่อเนื่องทั้งศักยภาพที่สูงยิ่งและควรเตรียมพร้อมรับ รวมถึงการโฆษณาชวนเชื่อที่เกินเหตุกลายเป็นความลุ่มหลงจนถึงการลวงโลกไปได้ในหลายกรณี คำสำคัญปรากฏขึ้นมากหลากหลายเพื่อให้ความหมายของวงการที่ถูกล้อเลียนว่าเข้าใจได้ยากหรือมีความหมายคลุมเครือเป็นไปได้ทั้งใช่หรือไม่ใช่ในเวลาเดียวกัน (เช่นเดียวกับการเป็นทั้งอนุภาคและคลื่นในเวลาเดียวกันของสถานะเชิงควอนตัม - ฟิสิกส์) ทั้ง “Hype is too high” (การโฆษณาเกินจริงมีมาก - ซาร์ก ฮาโรเซ นักวิทย์รางวัลโนเบล) หรือ “boutique security” (ระบบรักษาความปลอดภัยแบบสละสลวย สวยแต่รูปจูบไม่หอม) ซึ่งผลการการชวนเชื่อเกินจริงมาอย่างยาวนาน ส่งผลให้ทั้งวงการตกอยู่ในสถานะที่เสี่ยงต่อความไว้วางใจที่ใกล้เข้ามาจากความคาดหวังที่ไม่เป็นไปตามโฆษณา ทั้งจากเจ้าของงบทุนวิจัยและสังคมทั่วไป จึงส่งผลให้เสียงสะท้อนของสังคมมีความชัดเจนมากขึ้นทุกปี ดังนั้น การคาดการณ์เทคโนโลยี (techonology forecast) ในปีพ.ศ.๒๕๖๔ จึงสามารถฟันธงได้ด้วยความมั่นใจตั้งแต่ต้นปีในห้าหัวข้อหลัก ดังนี้
